One Step at a Time.

Training for speed and agility in the mountains has been a big focus for me lately. I finished out this last week with a timed run that reminded me of a few things:

It’s all about putting in the time, working the plan, and trusting that your body can do the job. What’s great about all three of these things is that they are all under my control.

We can all make choices to invest in growing our abilities. Growth doesn’t happen in a day or a week. It takes sustained effort and the discipline to stick to doing the work. For me, that means choosing the 5am trail run before work, choosing the 30 grams of protein breakfast, and planning my routes around weather – with a No Excuses mindset.

This Friday run used to take me 2 hours round-trip. This past Friday, it took me just under 39 minutes, including time for this photo on the top.

2-hour me would have said “no way” to this improvement. 39-minute me says “we can go faster if we keep working the plan.”

Life is all about perspective. Trusting that if you invest in yourself, things you want will happen for you. Sometimes that feels like a long leap but work your process. No better day to start than today!
