Client: “What is that noise in the background?”

Me: “I’m on the side of a mountain.”

Client: “You are where??!!”

Me: “I’m at eleven thousand feet. I hope you don’t mind.”

Client: “I love it. Can you turn on your camera so I can see?”

Me: “Absolutely!”

Client: “And for our call tomorrow morning, I think I’m going to try a walk if you are going to be climbing again.”

This exchange happened a few weeks ago on a daily project status call, and I have Charlie Engle to thank for it.

When I was introduced to Charlie a few years ago, I called him, and he was out running in a state park (in the hottest part of summer, bundled up in layers-- training for an ultra-race in the desert). We talked for 90 minutes, and he ran the entire time.

His authenticity and his willingness to bring me along on his outdoor training inspired me to do the same. There are only so many hours in the day to blend work and life together, and sometimes, spending time with someone who boldly trains and shares their time can inspire you to think in new ways about what you do and how you do it.

Charlie made me think.

As we go into the weekend, this is a great time to try something new and shake up your routine. Surrounding yourself with people who think differently can be a game changer if you stay open minded and let their impact be felt!

p.s. A big thank you to Scott MacGregor, the ultimate connector of like-minded people.
