"Most people don't realize how quickly they're revealing what they don't know."

"Most people don't realize how quickly they're revealing what they don't know." I hear some version of this constantly from HNW and UHNW luxury buyers.
"My team, my family office, and I get sold to every day. Usually by people who know everything about the product they're selling and almost nothing about the life I'm actually living.”
They are right.
Whether it's private aviation, luxury retail, hospitality, wealth management, or another affluent-facing business, there is an asymmetry of understanding. And it shows.
It also destroys a company’s ability to grow revenue in a way that's sustainable and defensible.
This week I'm doing something I rarely do, but genuinely love. I'm teaching sales teams across three luxury brands in three different industries.
If you want to sell to millionaire and billionaire clients, you'd better understand ultra-affluent people.
Not at the level of demographics or net worth.
At the level of behavioral psychology.
How wealth changes trust. How it changes decision-making. How it changes standards. How it changes risk. How it changes the way people evaluate expertise. How it changes what creates confidence.
Not just across wealth levels, but across how wealth was acquired, and the behavioral patterns that have shifted dramatically over the last 12 months.
Then go even deeper.
We deconstruct sophisticated sales conversations into models that can actually be learned, practiced, and mastered. Affluent buyers live extraordinarily complex lives. The way they evaluate decisions is fundamentally different. If your sales process isn't built for that complexity, you'll always be reacting instead of leading.
And then there's discernment.
Not instinct. Not charisma.
Discernment.
The ability to diagnose what matters, separate signal from noise, recognize hidden commercial opportunities, know what not to recommend, and shape decisions with precision.
Obtaining that level of insight isn't reserved for a gifted few. It can be taught.
Too much sales training is still teaching techniques, storytelling, and some singular “magical wow moment.”
The elite sales organizations are building commercial discernment. And creating actions from that.
Those are two very different games.
One creates transactions.
The other creates market leaders.
